Our society is wasteful and throws out more food than in any other time in history. Food can be preserved by freezing it but this is not suitable for all food without preparation.
In this tutorial I will show you how to freeze potatoes. Potatoes if not stored properly can start to sprout eyes this is a sign that the potato is becoming active. The eyes will become shoots and the potato will turn green. This is a sign that the potato is producing chlorophyll and is not safe to eat as it will contain toxins.
One way to preserve potatoes is to freeze them this tutorial will show you how in five easy steps.
You will need
Heat a saucepan of water and while you are waiting for the water to boil peel the skin of the Potatoes using the peeler
Cut the potatoes into half’s and quarter and place in the saucepan of water. Make sure that the water just covers the potatoes.
Wait for the water to boil and then turn down the heat and leave to simmer for ten minutes,
Crush some ice by placing in a plastic bag and hitting with a rolling pin. Pour the crusted ice into a bowl of chilled water. Turn off the heat on the cooker and place the potato pieces into the iced water. The potatoes will rapidly lose their heat after a few minutes.
Place the potato pieces onto a clean tea towel and leave to dry. Place the potato into a sealable freezer bag and seal leaving a small gap to insert the drinking straw.
Carefully suck the air out of the bag and then quickly remove the straw and seal the gap.
Place the bag into a freezer.
The potatoes should now keep for months and be ready to use whenever you need them.
